The Crimson Bears softball team opens home play on April 16-19 against Colony and West Valley at the newly turfed Adair Kennedy Park.
The JDHS boys baseball team remains where it has always played, the SEC DI, now with just Sitka and Ketchikan, but the Crimson Bears can also host teams on the new artificial turf field complete with outfield warning track and raised fences.
JDHS graduated just three seniors from their sixth-place state qualifying team and TMHS graduated four.
The return of the JD roster and addition of TM players should be a positive boost, and the team will get a chance to find out as they play this weekend at the Sitka Baseball Tournament against Sitka and Soldotna.
“This weekend’s tournament in Sitka will be a great opportunity to see players in various roles and positions,” JDHS head coach Luke Adams said in an email interview. “Returning players have set a high standard in practice and this Sitka tournament will help us assess where we stand and how we can continue to grow as a team. The energy and excitement are high this season, not only because of the new turf field at Adair-Kennedy but also because the players are eager to step on the field and represent their school and community. Now that we’re a few weeks into the season, we’re seeing who is ready to step up – not just in competition but also as a leader on and off the field.”
Managers are senior Jadela Saetern and sophomore Audrina Knight.
