The homepage of a website is no longer the primary entry point it once was. While traditionally seen as the “front door” to a business online, most modern users bypass the homepage entirely. This shift is due to changing user behavior, search engine algorithms, and the rise of social media and mobile browsing.

Most web traffic today comes from search engines like Google. When someone telegram data searches for a product, blog post, or answer to a question, Google doesn’t send them to the homepage—it sends them directly to the most relevant internal page, such as a product listing or blog article. This means that unless someone is specifically searching for your brand name, they’re unlikely to land on your homepage first.

When businesses share content on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or TikTok, they link directly to a product, article, or campaign page. Influencers and affiliates do the same. As a result, users clicking from social media are taken straight to the content that interests them, not to the homepage.

On mobile devices, users expect fast, direct access to the exact information they need. Long browsing sessions or navigating through a homepage are uncommon. Mobile shoppers, in particular, prefer clicking a link that takes them straight to a product or offer, not a general landing page.

When you send a promotional email or run a marketing campaign, you typically link to a landing page that matches the message. Sending users to a homepage forces them to search for what they saw in the ad or email, increasing the risk of drop-off.
