he Russian encyclopedia "Ruviki" plans to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) by the end of 2024. This was reported at the session "New Media of the Multipolar World" at SPIEF-2024 by Elena Litovchenko, Deputy General Director of "Ruviki". According to her, AI will make the encyclopedia more personalized for users. The company representative did not disclose any other details.
"By the end of 2024 or early 2025, we will demonstrate an update with artificial intelligence, and it will be a game changer in terms of perception of new encyclopedias," said Elena Litovchenko. She also noted that "Ruwiki" is based on the ideas of "Wikipedia", but will develop differently organizationally and technologically.
Center for Information Systems of Holding Management, believes that in the case of Ruviki, we are talking about an indirect effect from the introduction of AI: rather, we should talk about the expectation of expanding the list of content providers and the audience consuming it.
"The cost of implementing and turkey whatsapp resource supporting AI solutions can vary significantly depending on the terms under which a company acquires them (or develops them itself). In cases where the business model is related to content provision and revenue is related to the advertising market, AI technologies have been used for two decades and are very mature," FG Finam analyst Leonid Delitsyn told a ComNews correspondent.
"Ruviki" does not yet plan monetization for authors, as Elena Litovchenko told a ComNews correspondent on the sidelines of SPIEF 2024. The platform will stimulate content creators through gamification. "Authors will receive ranks and earn prizes for certain actions - writing articles, making edits, editing. This is necessary primarily for the development of the community of authors," Elena Litovchenko explained. Anyone can write an article on the platform. Many materials are reviewed by experts who have confirmed their status, or by the project's partners - the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Historical Museum.
According to Elena Litovchenko, the platform has 3.5 million unique visitors per month, as well as "exponential" audience growth: every month, the number of unique visitors increases by an average of 20%. The platform recently surpassed the 2 million article mark.
Financial analysts believe that Ruvika will not break even anytime soon. Freedom Finance Global analyst Vladimir Chernov believes that the scale of audience coverage of Wikipedia and Ruvika is disproportionate and is unlikely to be comparable anytime soon. In the coming years, Ruvika's main focus will be filling the platform with content.
FG Finam analyst Leonid Delitsyn believes that in the future, Ruviki could be bought by a large ecosystem, and the encyclopedia would develop as its element. In that case, payback would not be the main priority.
Wikipedia's business model is largely based on donations. In many countries where the project operates, there is a tradition of paying money for content. "The donation model is not very common here, so it is unlikely that Ruviki will follow this path," says Leonid Delitsyn.
