FCS: We were already monitoring the evolution of the pandemic, in France and abroad, and had a feeling that such a situation could arise. So we thought very quickly about the measures to put in place. As soon as the schools were announced to close, we worked on a continuity plan based on Blackboard . Some of the features of this tool were already in use, such as the virtual community room where students can find all general messages, the rooms by program, the classrooms where teachers make content available (slides, videos, documents, etc.). But videoconferencing had not been used until then.
FCS: The full-scale tests nurse database carried out on Thursday and Friday proved that everything worked. Of course, we ask students not to activate their cameras – it would be difficult for a teacher to cope with videos from 30 or even 100 students anyway! Our only concern is the capacity of the internet network to support the load ( editor's note: Netflix announced after the interview that they had reduced the speed in Europe, to avoid a paralysis of the internet: this should help reduce the risk of saturation! )
Technically, everything is ready. But how can we support the students?
FCS: We are in contact with all students, and send them regular messages to keep them informed of the measures taken. They will also be closely monitored: we will contact any student who does not connect to an online course, first by email, then by phone after the 3rd absence, to understand what is happening. We will help our students stay motivated ! The Program Managers are also there to help them, an email address has been created to answer all their questions about Blackboard and another for those about the coronavirus…
How could such a device be deployed in one week?
