What to see in Reims?1- Notre-Dame Cathedral

Post by sakib40 »

A jewel of Gothic art, the cathedral is larger than Notre-Dame de Paris. The facade of the cathedral is magnificent despite the damage suffered during the First World War. The numerous bombings earned it the nickname of martyr cathedral.

Facade of the cathedral
We are greeted by the Smiling Angel and enter the interior of this very beautiful skype data Gothic building. The back of the facade hosts statues, including a scene called the knighting, and very beautiful stained glass windows.

A plaque listing the kings crowned in Reims recalls the close link between this building and the history of France; a king had to be crowned in this building.

The dimensions inside are impressive, whether in the nave or the aisles.

Many of the stained glass windows had to be replaced after the destruction of 1914-1918 and you can admire a very beautiful stained glass window dedicated to the history of Champagne and of course the stained glass windows by Chagall which tell the story of the building, in particular the coronation of Charles VII in the presence of Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc of whom you can see a beautiful statue from 1901 in a side chapel.
