Having just switched to multifocal contacts, I feel your pain. Let's zoom in on that Y-axis a little (I wanted to show you the unspoken truth first) and add a trendline. Here's that zoomed-in graph:
The trend line is in purple. The trend break on April 5 and 7 is very easy to see in the zoomed-in version. The day-to-day decline on April 5 was 4.0%, followed by a recovery, and then a second, very similar, 4.4% decline.
Note that this metric moved very little during the benin number data algorithm flow, including the March “core” update. We can’t definitively prove that the stable URL drop represents a clear de-indexing, but it doesn’t seem to be affected much by typical Google algorithm updates.
What about the dominant intention?
I intentionally removed queries with expanded sitelinks from the analysis, as they are highly correlated with dominant intent. I speculated that dominant intent might mask some of the effects, as Google invests heavily in surfacing specific sites for these queries. Here is the same analysis for queries with only expanded sitelinks (this yielded a smaller set of 5,064 stable URLs):
Can you zoom in for our old people?
