The forums
Portals where users meet to start discussions and get answers to requests for information, and where members could apply links to their site in the signature of each post. Because of the extreme ease with which such links could be obtained and the fact that they were repeated in each post, they were targeted by Google as low-quality backlinks. Today, most forums have the nofollow attribute automatically inserted, which nullifies their use for SEO purposes.

However, they can still be useful for supporting brand visibility in contexts where people gather information around a topic.

The directories
Sites that, before search engines took hold, offered guatemala whatsapp number database collections of links allowing users to discover new sites around a given topic. As above, their use has been perverted from being merely a link-building exercise for the benefit of site owners, and they have generally fallen out of favor.

However, there are still some good directories today (especially at a local level) , but to be useful they must be portals where the addition of links takes place under the control of a moderator, who approves them only if they are relevant to the topic being discussed.

Avoid like the plague all directories where there is no quality control over the links inserted and where links can accumulate in endless lists.

Link exchange
Until a few years ago - and even today, to be honest - it was common to link to each other as a reciprocal favor in the hope of providing Google with valuable signals. Do you remember the classic "recommended sites" boxes in the sidebar?

This technique has also fallen into disuse as these patterns were easy for Google to spot.
