The communication protocol is not compatible with the data acquisition system. Common industrial communication protocols for data acquisition are OPC-UA and MQTT. However, not all machines are equipped with these protocols, but can often be retrofitted with appropriate solutions
The machine only delivers XML or CSV files. In this case, there must be a shared folder on a network drive between the machine and the data collection system so that the data collection system can retrieve the corresponding file.
Once these challenges have been mastered, a lot has already happened: Various systems now generate and record data, for example the machine itself, the MES and other devices such as imaging systems for predictive maintenance or various safety systems.
However, in order to be able to meaningfully analyze the recorded machine data, the semantics of the data must first be recorded: Which SI unit was used? At what point in time was the data generated? And which machine or system does it belong to?
In order to answer this question meaningfully, the following questions arise, among others:
An entire machine park generates an often underestimated amount new zealand consumer email list of data. Which machines or systems collect the data relevant to the company and its value creation?
Which signals (in the sense of data points) does the machine provide, for example machine status, material currently produced, temperature, etc.
The data architecture must be clarified based on the requirements: Is there a need for data streaming? How often should the data be retrieved? Should every single signal or a series of signals be captured?
Structured data facilitates data engineering and subsequent data analysis and modeling. So how should the collected data be structured?
How should the data be stored: on-premises, in the cloud or in a hybrid system?
What happens if the desired signals are not available? Is additional engineering and retrofitting (e.g. signal identification, sensor selection, PLC programming or data loggers) required?
Are all plant systems accessible to the data acquisition system? System integration plays a crucial role in selecting the development platform for the data acquisition system.
Once the connectivity of the machines has been ensured and it has been defined which data should be recorded and how, further questions arise about data recording and data management: How are data management systems set up? Should additional IIoT platforms be used? What type of data analysis is actually being carried out and is there a strategy for predictive maintenance or the use of AI models? Our experts for IoT and IIoT , smart products, digital production and data sciences will be happy to support you with your projects.
