“We tried to get the potato sector to advertise at a national level, because we wanted to value the potato, but there was no agreement. In 2018, seeing that it could not be done at a sector level, we decided to do it individually. We knew that it was a tremendous effort from an economic point of view, but we thought it was the way forward. Time has shown us that we were right and it has helped us to build an image of quality. That is what we have sought with advertising: to value and dignify the product and give it the prominence that we believe it should have in the shopping basket, regardless of the fact that it is such a basic product. It was about putting it in the place it deserved. And that advertising also has repercussions on the rest of the sector. We knew that someone had to lead it. It was us and we are very proud of it,” says Gómez.
The opening of its new factory in 2016 has meant another great step forward. Coinciding with the arrival at its new plant, Hijolusa has almost doubled its turnover. In addition, we have very advanced industrial machinery, both at the packaging and selection level: robotics, sorters/calibrators with artificial vision, etc. Likewise, digitalization and the programs we have allow us to control traceability from the field and in real time,” specifies the CEO.
