"Ted Lasso" is not only a good example of a light and funny series, but also a demonstration of a very unusual management style.
Ted is a football coach who approaches management democratically, with empathy and boundless optimism. The authors of the series sometimes deliberately exaggerate the kindness and gentleness of the main character to such an extent that he even begins to repel the viewer. But thanks to this, we can spy on interesting and effective methods of team management.
Together with the leader of the Made.Soboy project and the georgia telegram teacher of the Soft Skills: Key Leadership Skills course at Netology, Andrey Kazakov, we analyzed five management principles for managers that will help them achieve long-term success.

Be open: listen to colleagues at any level
In the series, Ted Lasso regularly listens to the opinions of the team members on various issues, and in response to the surprise of his colleagues, he says something like this: "Even though I am the leader, I certainly don't see everything and don't know everything. Anyone can say something that will expand or deepen my knowledge."
Openness to new things is the willingness to learn and reconsider your beliefs. It is always associated with the recognition of vulnerability and the possibility of making mistakes. There will always be people with their own ideas and opinions on the team. If the leader closes himself off from them, he loses access to unexpected solutions and hinders the growth of cooperation in the team.
People start working more productively when they unite not around the interests of the boss, but around a common cause. It becomes so if everyone feels their own contribution and sees that they are listened to. Otherwise, people lose motivation, and the atmosphere in the team becomes toxic.
Openness to new ideas does not mean automatic acceptance of all ideas. A manager is sincerely ready to give a go to the ideas of others, but at the same time evaluates them independently and makes decisions. In this way, he helps employees to reveal their potential and increases their involvement.
