The Basque Country is a region rich in unique cultural, historical and traditional heritage. The Rhune
This is THE mountain of the Basque Country par excellence. La Rhune, a mountain peak that culminates at 905 meters above sea level, offers a most exotic walk for all audiences.

From the village of Ascain, a few minutes from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, one of the possible departures for the Rhune is from a small car park before about two and a half hours of walking for the ascent (and descent) for a distance of 10.7 kilometers and a height difference of 870 meters. In order to visit the Rhune massif comfortably, obviously plan on good walking shoes. All along the walk to reach the summit, the panoramas and viewpoints on the Basque coast follow one another. From the colors of sand on the beaches to the orange roofs of the Basque houses surrounded by greenery, the spectacle is guaranteed.

The path to the summit of the Rhune is also a space where pottoks, the horses of the Basque Country, dot the landscape and the paths. They live freely on the slopes of the massif and thus participate in the maintenance of the mountain. It is therefore not uncommon to meet them during your walk not far from the cayolars , sheepfolds often in ruins which recall the activity of the shepherds who once lived there with their flocks.

The fauna of the Rhune is very rich, as is the flora, which surrounds the rocky paths of the walk. On the plateau of the Three Fountains, halfway, the trees, the flowers and the many meadows, surrounded by the calm and the sound of birds, make the atmosphere peaceful in the heart of the Rhune massif.
