Hi, my name is Dana De Tommaso. I'm the President and Partner at Kickpoint, and one of the things we do at Kickpoint is we do both SEO and paid. One of the things that's really useful is when SEO and paid work together. But even better is when SEOs can learn from paid to improve their own things.
One of the great things about AdWords or Google Ads — it can be called one thing or another whenever you’re looking at it — is that you can learn a lot from what has a high click-through rate, what performs usa number data in the payoff, and the payoff is much faster than waiting for Google to catch up on those great title tags you wrote or the new link building you did to see how it performed. So I’m going to talk about four things today that you can learn from AdWords, and they’re really easy things to get into AdWords.
Don't be intimidated by the interface. You can probably go there and see it for yourself, or talk to your AdWords guy. I bet they'll be really excited that you know what a callout extension is. So we're going to start here.
The first thing is negative keywords. Negative keywords, obviously, are really important. You don't want to show up for things that you shouldn't show up for.
Often when we need to take over an AdWords account, there aren’t a lot of negative keywords. But if it’s a well-managed account, there’s probably a lot of negative stuff that’s been added over time. What you want to look at is if there’s a poor association of words. So in your industry, things like cheap, free, jobs, and then reviews and coupons, if those are really popular search phrases, then maybe that’s something you need to create content for or you need to think about how your service is presented in your industry.
