Paradigms of old works still stand in the way

With the growth in the number of requests for agile transformations, the number of agile coaches will also increase in 2017. A common problem that these 'coaches' must guard against is that they themselves do not fall back on traditional sequential methods. Agile coaches who initiate an agile transformation, but do not work agile themselves, are a painful example of this. It really happens! It is the task of the agile coaches not only to protect themselves against old principles and to deal with classic resistance behavior, but especially to do this with their (internal or external) client of the transformation.

Falling back into old behavior
One of our senior coaches recently noticed the need for this. She was surprised that managers shout loudly for transformation, but that when push comes to shove, they themselves do not want to make time for it and therefore fall back into old behavior. What a shame! With the rise of coaches, quality must be monitored, not only in teams, but (especially) also at the management level of organizations. Agile leadership is an essential factor for success. The role model counts.

Despite this awareness, the old way of working still appears to be maintained in 2017. Paradigms are ingrained and determine the reflexes under stress, long after the organization has learned the new way of working. In my opinion, there are only a few organizations that know how to apply the agile principles correctly. The cause lies in the fact that people worldwide are used to thinking sequentially. That is to say, people are used to doing everything step by step. The result is that after creating products or solutions, organizations still have to test them, integrate them and make time for acceptance of this product or solution. However, in the current market there is no room for people and organizations that continue to think this way. Whether we like it or not, time to russian phone number list market will be the differentiator in the coming years.

Culture is essential
Only when the agile principles are correctly applied, paradigms will be turned upside down. Companies must throw over fixed principles and place the principles of agile working in the current work environment. Culture is essential in this, and is determined by people and their behavior. There are people who want to see opportunities and people who come with counterarguments. Every yes but repeats an old paradigm remains in the time. The zeitgeist of today requires adequate and quick reactions.

Here lies an important role for coaches. It is important that they have a behavioral background and enter the competition as such. This is how they distinguish themselves from agile practitioners . Coaches must also really want to achieve change. It makes a huge difference whether someone is just coaching or is part of a focused transformation: coaching makes someone better at what he or she does (that is why we see so much 'agile' with all kinds of traditional aspects), the transformation brings the change not only in the teams but in the entire organization.
