What are SMART goals?

Specific, achievable goals that are important for a business and with measurable results from the actions that are implemented. Welcome to the era of SMART objectives , an essential strategy for brands to evolve and grow. Here we discuss what they consist of and how to establish them appropriately based on the profile of the professional and/or the company.
'Specific' + 'Measurable' + 'Achievable' + 'Relevant' + 'Timely'. The sum of the first letters of these words gives birth to the term SMART , the so-called smart objectives: very specific goals , which are measurable, achievable, relevant to a company and timely. This is the definition of a SMART objective , a concept that we address in depth due to the magnificent results it brings to those companies and professionals who put it into practice.
Definition of SMART goal

It was George T. Doran who dealt with this in the article 'There's a SMART way to write management's goals and objectives', in Peter Drucker's book 'Management Review'. Back then, the foundations were laid for a system that has been optimized over time.
Characteristics of SMART goals
The foundations from which we start when defining these goals are the following, taking into account the characteristics that make up the essence of what a smart objective consists of :
Specific (Specific)
Clearly define what you want to achieve. It must be a very specific and concrete goal. For example: increasing bookings in the low season (if it were a hotel); reaching a specific public that is revealed as a target with which there are points of connection (fashion brands, telephone company).
Measurable
Results can be measured. A series of indicators are established to really assess the effectiveness of the actions implemented: increased bookings, increased number of followers, increased sales, etc.
Achievable
Feasible goals, attainable objectives. You have to be ambitious but be aware of the existing possibilities, without dreaming of the impossible. This point is key to avoid getting frustration as a response.
Realists (Realistic)
Closely linked to the previous point. This characteristic goes hand in hand with working to achieve achievable goals. That point of reality and not going for unattainable goals, which are beyond our possibilities.
