LThe European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has informed Meta that as of next Wednesday, November 8, it must stop processing personal data of users of its social networks for later use in personalized advertising . The argument for the measure is that the social networks managed by the company do not comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This measure comes just a few weeks after Mark Zuckerberg's company announced that a paid version of Instagram and Facebook will be launched in Europe this month , allowing users to enjoy content without viewing ads for around €9.99 per month (€12.99 on iOS and Android).

An "urgent" decision
According to the EDPB’s official statement, on 27 cyprus number data October, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) – Meta’s main regulator in the European Union, as the company has its European headquarters in Dublin – adopted an “urgent and binding” decision ordering the Irish DPA, as the lead supervisory authority, to adopt final measures with respect to Meta Ireland Limited (Meta IE) and impose a ban on the processing of personal data for targeted advertising throughout the European Economic Area (EEA).

This followed a request from the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (NO DPA).

In this regard, CEPD President Anu Talus said that “ Meta has not demonstrated that it has complied with the orders imposed at the end of last year. It is time for Meta to adjust its processing and stop the illegal prosecution.”
