Even before Google Maps officially added the function of saving map sections for offline use, with a Wi-Fi connection you could zoom in on the map in detail along your route, the data was stored in the cache and was available without the Internet. This way you could forget about buying offline maps for your travels forever. But the useful features of Google Maps are not limited to this. We tell you what other useful functions you will need when traveling and even at home.
Offline maps
Use: for navigation without an internet connection
With this feature, you can do without the tricks of zooming in sweden number data on the desired areas and saving them to the cache. You just need to open the left menu (the sandwich button in the search bar), select "Offline maps". In the tab you will see all your saved maps and the "Other map" option. If you click on it, you can select the desired area and save it to your phone. Now you have access to navigation even in a remote village.
Departure time
Use: to calculate travel time to the station/airport
When you're in an unfamiliar city, you can now quickly get an idea of how long it will take to get to the airport or how many minutes it will take to make a transfer. Enter your route into the maps, select the public transport icon. The line "Departure in..." will appear under it. Here you can specify the time and see which transport will take you to your destination in what time. In "Settings" you can specify the type of transport and priorities, such as "less walking/transfers". When building a route with a time reference, the load on the roads at that time of day is taken into account, which means that traffic jams and traffic are also taken into account.
Local transport
Use: for planning routes around the city
The same feature can be used to plan your city trips. The app will show you all the necessary routes and transfers. Keep in mind that this works well in cities, such as Europe, and doesn't work very well in countries where public transport doesn't follow a schedule.
